Antique Southeast Asian wood carving of the head of a makara. The Hindu water creature has the head of an elephant/deer and the body of a crocodile (or water monitor) giving it a dragon-like/serpentine appearance. Makara are often seen guarding entrances to holy spaces. This makara head was most likely once part of a temple. The Vahana (vehicle) of the goddess Ganga is a makara.
With custom metal stand.
