Beautiful women’s vintage silk cheongsam (or qipao) dress with gold trim and satin borders. It has water droplet shaped fasteners with gold swirls within, mandarin collar, and slits on either side. The first style of qipao emerged in the Qing Dynasty when the Manchu social group called the Banners came to be. All Han Chinese under the banner were forced to dress in qipao instead of traditional Han dress. The original qipaos were baggy and loose to conceal a woman’s body, however in 1920s Shanghai, the modern slim-fitting qipao was created as a high-class fashion statement, shedding it of its old negative connotations. circa 1930s
