Rare and Beautiful Japanese Antique Sado Island Tansu
Gorgeous Rare Japanese single section isho tansu (clothing chest) from Sado Island, made of kiri (paulownia) wood with translucent reddish orange lacquer finish, fantastic iron hardware including large and elaborate lockplates featuring phoenixes, safe door open to two small drawers, Meiji Period (circa late 1800's).

Antique Japanese Butsudan Shrine

The front exterior of the shrine is made with beautiful red finish hardwood with black lacquer sides, folding silk meshed interior doors with gilt lacquer panels of flying cranes, a beautiful miniature temple scene inside where the image of a deity and offerings are to be placed. Antique Japanese rare two-section isho tansu (clothing chest) with a very interesting burl wood front, and lacquered sides. Each of its very large drawers has its own custom incised lockplate with imagery of cherry blossoms, bamboo, cranes, and other auspicious elements. Meiji period (1868-1912)

Antique Japanese Keyaki Choba Tansu
Very charming Japanese choba tansu (merchant's chest) made from very beautiful keyaki (zelkova) wood, horizontal slats on its sides, decorative iron hardware including diamond shaped handles with incised scrolling vines, hirute drawer handles, and a cloud-shaped lockplate for a small hinged door with three small drawers inside. Dates from the Meiji period (1868-1912).

Antique Korean Wooden Amida Buddha with Gold Leaf
Large Korean wooden statue of the Amida Buddha or Amitābha, also known as "The Buddha of Infinite Light." He was covered in an oyster shell pigment in order to smooth out the woodgrain, a red lacquer was applied over it, and finally a gold leaf topcoat was applied. He is typically shown in a standing position and is oddly portrayed seated in this statue. 19th century

Korean Ancient Buddhist Gilded Sutra and Reliquary
Korean antique Buddhist Sutra text with cylindrical reliquary, the reliquary is made of gilt copper repouse with a figure incised on one side, the contents of the cylinder has been laid out flat for display in a plexiglas stand, one side is a flat rectangular gilt metal section with raised characters of buddhist text and praying figure on the left, the other side of the display has a similar rectangular section of raised Buddhist text and two figures on silver, dates to about 11th to 13th... Antique Tibetan Thangka of Amitayus
A refined image of the deity Amitayus, known as the Buddha of infinite light in many pureland texts including the Sukhavativyuha Sutra. The central Amitayus image is surrounded by nearly a hundred or so other Amitayus images reflecting a concept found in Vajrayana and Mahayana texts of how a Buddha or Bodhisattva can be found in many locations simultaneously. Japanese choba tansu (merchant's chest), Keyaki wood, beautiful grain and lacquer finish, heavy iron hardware with elaborate lock plates and warabite shaped drawer pulls. Top portion has two medium sized drawers, a small drawer and a safe door, the bottom portion has two full width drawers, nice side handles, Shonai area.

Japanese Kusuri Medicine Tansu
Beautiful rare Japanese kusuri medical tansu, made of keyaki wood (zelkova) front, top and sides. Sugi wood interior. Original finish and hardware, lacquer with orange, dark reddish, brown and mahogany tones. Five rows of drawers of varying sizes, which includes a larger drawer with a beautiful lock at the bottom. Iron hardware on each drawer and side handles. Age: Edo Period (c1850).
