Japanese Antique Shishinto Wakasashi, Signed Blade  

Japanese antique wakasashi (44.3 cm) sword, blade with unusual writing on either side of blade, signed Kuniyuki with single hole on tang, black lacquer and mother of pearl inlaid sheath, shark skin handle with original wrapping and gilt copper menuki in the form of dragons, comes with kozuka small knife decorated with a gilded horse and flowers which slips into the sheath on one side (small knife blade has inscription), on the other side is another removable bronze knife Kogai decorated with a gilded flower on one side, late Shishinto Period, circa 1780s. Total size: 31 3/4" long. Inscription on blade appears to be a mystic Buddhist incantation of Bishamonten from the Lotus Sutra, Chapter 26, Dharini text:阿棃那棃莵那棃 (atte natte nunatte) 阿那 盧那履拘那履 (anada nade kunadi), (signed)Mei: 國行 – Kuniyuki.
