Rare Japanese Choba Tansu with lovely original finish of dark reddish coloration. Made of heavy sugi (Japanese cypress) wood with keyaki (elm) wood sliding panels. Locking bar is used with key in front of square handled drawers. The secret compartment has a lock and unique location. Edo Period, early 1800s.
