Japanese Kaidon (step tansu), Meiji Period
Japanese 2-section Kaidon-dansu (step chest) from the Kyoto area, this piece once functioned as both a storage chest and a staircase to the upper level of a Japanese house. Made of hinoki (Japanese cypress) wood with very light finish, original hardware, beautiful condition and a gorgeous piece overall, Meiji Period (circa 1890).
