Zentner Collection: Antique Japanese Tansu, Asian Works of Art
Japanese fune bako (ship safe box) constructed of Kiri wood, with heavy hand-forged iron plates. The front door of the box is mounted on five large hinges and decorated in heavy iron plating with foliate motifs. The top of the door has an auspicious kanji symbol in iron. Inside the fune bako are five drawers of varied size with foliate edge handle mounts and locks. The piece has a warabite handle for carrying on top.
