Japanese Antique 2-section Gifu Choba Tansu
Japanese 2-section choba tansu (merchant's chest) from the Gifu area, made of hinoki (Japanese cypress) wood, top section has sliding panels with horizontal slats and two small drawers, bottom section has large drawer over another compartment with sliding panels and horizontal slats, 5 drawers on the bottom, one the lower right side is a small safe box with much ironwork inside which is two small drawers, the safe has one key, iron hardware also includes round lock plates and warabite shaped drawer pulls, nice horizontal wooden bracing on the sides of the chest, Meiji Period(1868-1912).
